On my recent trip to Chicago, I had the opportunity to eat at Mercat a la Planxa, Jose Garces’ hip tapas restaurant on Michigan Avenue. My mom and I chose a variety of dishes for our meal, selecting one tapas dish each from the fish, flatbread, vegetarian, and meat tapas choices. The entire meal, from our first dish (bacalhau or salt cod) which was presented in a school of tiny fish-shaped porcelain spoons, to the dessert finale (I had the chocolate mousse with hazelnut ganache), not only provided a delicious and refined combination of flavors, but was also sublime to look at.
If you are in the Chicago area and are looking for a new place to try, I highly recommend this jewel of a restaurant. Your eyes will be as delighted as your stomach.
Note: If you plan to order the roast suckling pig, make sure you do this 72 hours in advance…
