Inspired to Do Good – The Gift of Giving

I recently purchased the book Business and the Buddha: Doing Well by Doing Good by Lloyd Field, Ph.D.  And today, after sending off a business grant proposal (17 typed pages along with a small fortune of professional photographs of my jewelry) I finally sat down on the back porch in the sun to eat my lunch MINDFULLY for a change, and cracked open the book and started reading.Picture of pink peony

Even though I’ve only read the forward (by the Dalai Lama), preface (by Master Hsing Yun) and the 1st chapter, I’m already feeling inspired to continue with ways to expand on doing good with my business.  While some of you already know that I’ve donated pieces for auction to support local area arts organizations over the last 3 years – a cause very near and dear to my heart – I’ve also decided to donate 2% of every sale of Joana Miranda Studio jewelry from here forward to charity.  One of my favorite charities is FINCA, an organization that provides financial services in the form of microloans to the world’s lowest-income entrepreneurs so they can create jobs, build assets and improve their standard of living.  As a small business owner with a passion for creating beauty around me, helping others to follow their dreams and passions is something I believe in deeply.   If you’d like to contribute on your own, please click on the FINCA button in my blog sidebar.

As always, each purchase of Joana Miranda Studio jewelry will still come in my signature eco-friendly 100% recycled box.
