My Favorite Things – Free Time (During Which I Attempted a New Chocolate Cake Recipe)

Yup, that’s right.  Today, I actually got some (free time, that is.)

So, after finishing up volunteering for the  New York Cares‘ computer basics program at the local public library, I stopped by the grocery store to pick up ingredients to make a chocolate cake.  It being Valentine’s tomorrow, I decided my husband would appreciate the gesture.  But to be honest, I was also celebrating that I had the time to bake a cake!

David Leite’s Chocolate Cake recipe looked divine.  It’s very similar to the chocolate cake recipe on the back of the Hershey’s Cocoa tin but has the addition of instant espresso powder and (ahem) a wee bit more butter in the frosting.

With the aid of Felix, I set to work.

I’m usually a neat cook, but not today…

(In fact, my cakes made a GIANT mess in the oven when they rose and overflowed their pans.)

Looking a little like deflated berets, the baked cakes didn’t show much promise…

But, fortunately, this chocolate frosting could cover up a multitude of sins.

oh it looks divine! How yummy. You and Felix are yummy, too.
    love, la ma

    • Hi Ma,

It IS divine, but very rich. Then again, we had dinner last night at 11:30 p.m. and dug into the cake at midnight…not exactly a healthy time to be indulging, but that’s when we were able to finally sit down to dinner together.

      I love you lots, J
