My Favorite Things – New York City in the Snow

New York is a different city in the snow.  The sounds are muffled, traffic slows to a crawl, and neon signs take on a new alluring softness.  Last night as I trudged to work at Lincoln Center in the biting cold and swirling snow, this is what I saw:

    • Hi Betsy,

Thanks so much for your nice comment! I hope you didn’t have to drive in the storm last night. I hated dealing with the snow in Milwaukee when I lived there, but now it’s a treat to experience it (and not have to shovel or drive in it!)

I hope to see you again sometime soon – Joana

    • Thank you so much for your nice comment and for visiting my blog! The snow storm was beautiful…although now it’s a little less magical and just REALLY cold here. But to be honest, I love NY in any weather!

      With all best wishes,

      • You’re very welcome!

Oh, sorry to hear that! I can only imagine how cold it is! I saw the pictures on the Internet of huge glass crashed in Apple’s NY store, so it must be REALLY cold! 🙂 But, again, I agree with you, NY must be such a magical place even in this weather! I haven’t been there yet, but I already love it 🙂

Stay warm and best wishes to you too!

        • Hi Natella,

I didn’t know about the glass accident at the Apple store, but just looked it up. Apparently, it was due to a snow blower accidentally knocking into the glass…and the repair is supposedly going to cost $450,000! Can you image how bad the guy working the snow blower must feel? Aaack!

We’re back to more snow tonight…but this will be just a dusting, I think.

With all best wishes, 🙂 Joana

          • Hi Joana,

            Oh poor guy!

Apple’s bad karma returned to them from all their customers, who had to repair their broken screens (I heard that replacing the glass screen is quite costly too ) 🙂

            Have a great day!

            • Hi Natella,

Maybe it IS karmic retribution! I don’t own any fancy devices (apart from my computer) so I wasn’t aware about the Apple screen issues. If I have the chance, I might try to walk by the Apple store (sort of on the other side of town from where I live) and see the damage. I wonder how long it will take to be repaired?

Hope you are having a nice week wherever you are! 🙂 Joana

              • Hi Joana!

It finally snowed in my part of the world too! It was beautiful!

I had a couple of friends, who dropped their iphones by accident and the screen got smashed and replacement would cost like 200$. I keep an eye on my iphone ever since (the only fancy device I own but i love it). Hope Apple finds a replacement or repairs the current one! 🙂 Let me know, if you do get a chance to see it!
                Have a lovely weekend!

                • Hi Natella,

So where is your world? You’ve piqued my curiosity!

I did walk by the Apple store the other day. I had my camera with me, too, but there was no evidence of a broken window/wall. There was a workmen’s scaffolding truck inside the window, so maybe they had just finished repairing the window?

My mom has an iPhone, too…hard to believe she’s more technologically advanced than I am. Maybe I’ll get one sometime in the future…

                  🙂 Joana

                  • Hi Joana!

I’m from Azerbaijan. It is located in between Europe and Asia. Usually, we don’t get much snow, so it’s a big thing for us 🙂

Oh, probably they did finish repairing! They are fast!

Haha, I think our parents are even more interested in technology and gadgets than we are! 🙂 iPhone is quite amazing though! With all the apps that have been added to the AppStore lately, it serves just like a computer on the go and saves me lots of time. I love scrolling thru my dashboard on WordPress app or looking thru Pinterest, if I need to kill time waiting for someone, etc.
