My Favorite Things – An Overnight Escape to the Omni Mount Washington Resort Hotel (Part 1)

Visiting my mom in her little cabin in NH is always an experience – one that usually revolves around home-cooked meals, refreshing swims, glorious sunsets and fairly rustic living.  On my short visit this time though, we decided to “escape over the wall” and have an overnight vacation…from our vacation.

How spoiled are we?!

Our goal was to explore a bit of New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest, but instead of strapping on hiking boots and day packs, we hopped in the car and headed towards Bretton Woods and the Omni Mount Washington Resort.

A few hours later, as we pulled into the driveway of the resort, I displayed rather un-resort-like behavior by jumping out of the car to snap this picture.

(We weren’t the only guests checking in, but the old-world charm made us feel like royalty anyway!)

The entry lobby was grand yet inviting…

And the wrap-around, white-washed porch and wicker settees seemed to beg for us to spend the afternoon lounging.

But we decided to go exploring first and took the hotel shuttle to the Bretton Woods ski area for a  ride on the (free) scenic chair lift.

The views of Mount Washington in the distance didn’t disappoint (and I’m happy to report that I didn’t lose my sandals or drop my camera!)

After our strenuous workout riding the chair lift, it was back to the hotel for some quiet time…

And cocktails followed by dinner.

(If you’ve enjoyed this post, I hope you’ll come back tomorrow for “Part II” where I’ll post pictures from our trek to the top of Mount Washington.)
