My Favorite Things – A Weekend Island Escape to Nantucket

I played hooky this weekend and went to the end of the world.  Or so it felt…

Atlantic Ocean off Nantucket

Thirty miles off the coast of Cape Cod and accessible only by ferry (or by plane during “the season”), getting here from New York City is an all day affair.

But when you see this coastline…

Off the shore of Nantucket

The trip certainly seems worth it!

We were visiting my mother-in-law.  From her place, it was just a short car ride to the Sankaty Head lighthouse…

And to the quiet and quaint Main Street.

Just a few blocks away, the harbor was glorious in the crisp and clear morning sun.

Nantucket is home to around 10,000 inhabitants during the year, though the summer seasons brings lots of seasonal visitors and the island swells to 60,000!

Buying real estate, even just a fixer-upper like this…

Or this…

Is not in the cards for us any time soon.

But at the end of the day…

We can count still count our blessings and relive the fond memories!

I’m so jealous. I love the Cape and Nantucket so much!!

    • Hi lilbrigs, it was my first visit to both Nantucket AND the Cape…which is hard to believe since I’ve lived quite a bit of my life on the East Coast. I especially loved the light on Nantucket and look forward to going back again with my camera. 🙂

Hope you have a great weekend! Joana

  2. You take such amazing photos. What perfect weather you had. I love the islands.

    • Hi Susan,

Most of the really good pictures were taken the morning we were leaving. We got to the ferry early, and because I had time and the light was so sublime, I seized the opportunity to go walking around the docks with my camera. Today is rainy and cold in the city – not a good day to be out and about with the camera, unfortunately..:-(

I hope you are doing well! Joana
