My Favorite Things – New York City in the Springtime

After a few long days of rehearsing and performing at the Rose Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center, I welcomed an afternoon of free time to meander through the city.  Spring is officially here.  The trees are flowering and even the tulips have started blooming.  From the ground up the earth seems to be coming back to life.

Near my apartment, a squirrel was making a meal out of some crocuses…

While high up above, the avenues were lined with blossom-covered trees.

Just across from Lincoln Center a little violinist was taking advantage of the warm weather to serenade passersby with an impromptu concert.

(Note the incredible violin and bow hold! This little boy may very well be playing AT Lincoln Center soon…)

On the  southeast corner of Central park, the fountain was also surrounded with blossoms…

And the blue hydrangeas at the Park Plaza Hotel provided a pretty pop of color.

As I made my way back uptown through the park I stopped to photograph more cherry trees…

Ah, how I love spring!

  1. Dang, we ain’t got no trees even close to flowering.

    • I guess we’re almost the deep south in comparison to Milwaukee (although I mean that only geographically!) The trees across from our apartment just burst into white blooms this mornings. They look like they’re covered with popcorn. I LOVE this time of year!

By the way, you looked great in the photo from Easter that was put up on FB. 🙂

      • Haha, yes, a rare good photo! I’m so in-photogenic!

        • Hi Helen,

It’s taken me years (like until THIS year) to figure out that I should look at the lens of the camera and not at eyes/face of the person holding the camera. Of course, I still look very un-photogenic in pictures. I’m usually at my worst with Andy…and he always sighs and tells me to stop making faces. (That does wonders for making me relax and look natural.;-) My mom usually takes the best photos of me, but then again that’s because I pester her to take LOTS of them.
