My Favorite Things – The Healing Power of Being Outdoors

Ironically, as I’ve struggled over the past 6 weeks with health issues and anxiety, I’ve stopped doing some of the very things that make me the most happy and healthy.  Today I took an important step by, well…stepping outside.  And of course, I made sure to bring along my camera. (Note to self – stopping to take pictures of beautiful things is one of the best ways to be mindful and in the moment.)

Here’s what caught my eye…

  3. I’ve struggled with some anxiety recently, as well. I am finding that being present is the best way for me to get out of the anxiety loop. If I am present, then I am not thinking about all the things that could go wrong in the future. It seems to help. My mantra lately is “All is well right this minute.” I hope that your worries cease and that you can once again enjoy life to the fullest.

    • Hi Stacy, So lovely to hear from you! I so appreciate your words of wisdom and support. I have certainly battled lots of physical symptoms recently (weight loss, digestive distress, etc.) and am still trying to get answers from the medical profession. My suspicion is that my physical symptoms are due to hormonal changes and approaching menopause. Thyroid/hormone tests were done yesterday, so I should know something soon. That said, I know that I’ve compounded the problem with worry. Meditation/mindfulness has become my new friend, though some days I’m better at staying in the present than others. Having mantras really helps, too, so I’ll add yours into my “arsenal.” I wish you calm, peace and all happiness! 🙂 Joana

    Very nice! I join you – had several panic attacks – one because I was going to drive – had to get Alton here to drive instead. Too wobbly to trust myself. But even going outside at all is a bit traumatic….. easier if I know the car is there waiting 🙄 Had a good “medical intuitive” appointment- learned a lot about my condition. Mostly belly problem now is scar tissue (surgical adhesions) – very painful. Viruses are the main reason for the neurological problem – inflaming and constricting the dura mater – membrane covering brain and all of nervous system down to sacrum. Which is why I have problems at both ends. Taking a more powerful anti-viral this weekend – it’s a liquid, every hour. A bit nervous about it – it’s a strong detox.

    Anyway there was a lot more from her that was very interesting. I have been able to get an appointment with her every 4-6 months.

    Love my combo now of a great osteopath – who was the one who identified which level the inflammation and constriction was most acute – she got it to release some and WOW NOT WOBBLY!!! (For a few days – will take time) and my wonderful Feldenkrais people who are rearranging my body parts. Playing the viola for 50 years did not help!!! I’m twisted!!!! 😆 They seem more effective than either chiropractor I had been going to. Anyway I’m sorry about the intestine/anxiety trouble you’re experiencing and hope it lightens up! And I enjoyed the pictures. M.

    • Hi Maureen,

      I am pretty sure that I’m beginning to turn the corner now. I’m still waiting for the results of the thyroid/hormone tests I had done on Thursday, but I’m feeling calmer and more like my old self (“old” probably being the most apt term at this point!) If this isn’t related to thyroid, I’m pretty sure that it IS related to fluctuating and changing hormones. In any case, the reading on anxiety I’ve been doing (specifically on how to bring yourself up from the downward spiral) together with the daily meditation sessions and yoga, does seem to working wonders.

      I’m so glad that you like your osteopath and that you feel like you have a good team of doctors helping you! Through my multiple Drs’ visits over the past 7 weeks, I’ve come to find that not all doctors are equally attentive, helpful or even good! I did have a very nice conversation recently with the pharmacist at the integrative health store near us. In just our brief chat, I felt like she understood what I’ve been going through and was able to synthesize and tie together for me all of the different information I’ve been getting from each of the specialists I’ve seen. Yay for that!

      Meanwhile, in more interesting news, I changed two strings on my viola (much overdo) and am breaking them in by practicing – scrubba scrubba – Romeo and Juliet again.
